Finally a Storage Solution from Nintendo

It took them awhile but Nintendo has finally released a useful firmware update.

The new update announced at GDC (Game Developers Conference) allows to start games directly from the SD card. Which means you can now save space by transferring all your WiiWare and Virtual Console games right to you SD Card.

The update also increases the SD card size limit from 2GB to 32GB, so plenty of space now. The only limitations are 20 pages (12 games each) so only a max of 240 games on your SD card.

Do you think they will release any much larger WiiWare titles now you can use up to 32Gb of storage?
I highly doubt it. The main reason is that this is a work around method of playing games off the SD. What it does is copy over the file temporally, than plays it from the wii, and deletes it afterward. Adding large games would eat the RAM so there would be too many crashes making them unplayable.

I can see them raising maybe to 100MB, but because Nintendo likes to think of everyone I think it will stay at the 40MB limit since many casual owners would still not have an SD card.
