GC Controller Extender Cables

Ok, this makes no sense. I have a GC controller extender cable that I always use for my GC controller because my TV is far away, and it always works perfectly fine with my GC. I just got my Wii today, and I tried to use the extender cable, and it doesn't work with the wii. The plug that goes into the wii gets stuck and it barely fits, and the wii doesn't register that there is a GC controller even after I force the extender cable to plug in. Has anyone else experienced this problem? What is going on?

I've never used an extender cable, so I can't say that I have....

Do you know if there are different versions of the GC extender cables, and maybe I have an older version or something?

I wanted to do this... but I got a wireless controlller (Wavebird) instead.....

I don't get rumble feature... but I can comfortably sit on my bed (or lie down).... without any wire hassles......
