Mario and sonic at the olympics

Ok, on mario and sonic at the olympics, i go on multiplayer mode and on free circuit then choose 8 events, but for some reason it only lets me choose 5, is this normal? And if so, how can i fix it? Sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks
