my wii dvd player...!

my wii is doing weird...it says when i want to play a game theres something wrong and i have to read the manual ( i cant find anything there ) my dad says : dont set the wii right up but just let him lay on the ground . so i did it...and my wii works...but not always . now is my qeustion : how can i repair this on the cheapest way?

I hear putting it on a carpet without a stand does stuff to it. And...what does a wii dvd player have to do with this?
