In a Dianne Sawyer interview he said that he made this comment sarcastically because of all the heat he has been getting for being a Scientologist. He claimed it was a joke.

Over here where I'm at, the fathers of newborns do that to feel the essence of their children in order to best understand them.......so to some it's a part of their culture, to others, they are the fucked up people of society......
