Why do shooters attract people?

Well, I think what it may have to do with is the fact that it is a game and not real life. You can have a blood-thirsty battle with an army, war-general, etc... having that experience, without the need of stepping foot into an actual battle of this kind. The experience of being able to do something of this caliber could be what contributes to while people play games of this genre.

I think it releases stress for one. Not to mention there is always that competitive side of people. Sure playing games like Mass Effect 3, you can beat someone in points, but shooting someone in the face before they can kill you is always a boost to an ego.
