I had this problem,but I found a solution to it before I found this notice.Nexon.net said:If you had a clean install of the client since the last game update, you may experience the error code -40 problem:

A possible fix for this is to re-install the NexonGameManager. Just download and install the file from the link below:
http://ngm.nexon.net/ngm/NGM/Bin/NexonGameManager.exe
If you are still experiencing issues afterwards, please submit a Customer Support Ticket.
