So, my friend leaves for england tomorrow and i wanted to test starting a server for source so we could play against each other with bots. I started a server by hitting the "Create Server" button, filled out all the stuff, and clicked start. Server went up (non dedicated) but my fried couldn't see it. Turns out it was created on my lan. How can i have it be created on the internet.

Thanks in advance,

Ice

Hey Ice, here is the jyst on servers.

The server you are making is probably there he cant see it because you probably behind a router or some form of firewall.

if you are behind a router you will need to open the server port so it can send and recieve, this is called port-forwarding.

For further instructions on how to use/do this consult your router's manual or readme file and also go to portforward.com if you run into any trouble, but the basic thing is to enable port forwarding for TCP and UDP, the port number is 27015.

any q's feel free to ask.

Well, you're right, I am behind a router. I went to port forwarding, and a lot of the stuff seemed kind of tinkeringish.
Will that have any detrimental effects on the network as a whole. Kind of don't want my dad to know, and thus, don't want to have to go on his computer and change his IP to a static address. Is there any other way?

Funny part is Digi answered him 8 minutes after his original post.

He then re-replies a little over two months later.

I thought I was a procrastinator.
