Dont get anything american. Get a japenese car ( Toyota, nissan, honda, etc.). Make sure you get a 2000+ model for better gas mileage. If your in the east coast, New england is the best place for used cars.

P.S. I have a toyota camry, my brother has a camry, and now my sister has a camry. This car will never give you any trouble.

Toyota's are great cars. Honda as well. It's too bad that the American automobile industry didn't see the writing on the walls and become more in tune to their customers complaints about reliability. I'm sure they see now though. I was talking to a mechanic that I go to and asked him which model of car he see's come in the most. He told me that far beyond any other, General Motors.

far
beyond any other, General Motors.

don't forget that they make more cars than anyone else, and will have more cars repaired than anyone else. evan imports can be junk now and then, Pick up a copy of the consumer reports year end buying guide (at most book stores they go back 5 years on used cars to avoid

before my stay at home dad gig I was salesman of the year for the highest volume chevy dealer in the state, feel free to hit me up if you have any questions or want tips for buying. I can give up my cell # incase you want to call as your working the deal.

if you want a sweet ass ride, pm me... getting rid of my 97 camaro z28, white, 30th anniversy, t-tops, all leathers, 2 12 JL W4 subs, 1 JL 500/1 amp, brand new engine, brand new alternator, brand new radiator, brand new battery, brand new fuel injectors, brand new tires, opened up exhaust, k&n air intake... pushes about 330 hp and 340 torq... the car itself has 133k miles on it, but i had just about everything replaced after i ran over a semi truck tire that went under my bumper and jacked my motor all to pieces. the tire scrapped paint off the front bumper but im tryin to get that repaired within the next 2 weeks... im tryin to sell it for 8500/obo

in showroom new condition (no scufs, stains, chips, scratches ect) you a little high, also keep in mind you can't get a car loan on a car with over 100k miles.and the 8-16mpg with $3.00+ gal gas is going to hurt your buyers before they ever see the car. But the new engine and tranny, tires and paint might get you a buyer in the 7-8k range if your lucky. I would consider anything over $6,800 a good deal for you if you sell it yourself. The acv, or dealer trade will be insulting since they cant add a fair value for the new gear.

Wow, Thanks guys for all your feedback so fast, and daddy, nice post on the camaro=P

heres the deal

I have :

2grand to my name
Shitty credit
Mom to Co-Sign if I need it(shes got the good credit)
Im really aiming for some kind of down-payment-to-monthly payment deal but who knows right?

I can push for a bank loan but thats gonna take some time.
Id really like some feedback on what I should do cause ive never looked into this car stuff, before, i just always drove the family SUV, WHICH I might just end up doing again but id liek to get soemthing in my name and re-establish my credit scores.

I would say im looking for something honda/toyota/nissan 4 cyl, decent miles nothing over 100k( but then how long do the rice burners last after 100k? it seems they make it to almost 200 before they kick)

Sorry Liz, I know ive seen your camaro b4 ( you posted a pic i think) but that v-8 is killer on the wallet...maybe when im a richer. Thank you for posting it up either way, talk to heat he is a fellow gear head.

I will get my old copy of Consumers reports and skim throught that price range and list everything they recomend, and any feeling I have about them tomorow, its 2 am, and I have to try and get more than 4 hours of sleep. I just got 5 cords of wood dumped today and have to finish stacking it in the morning after I get the kids off to school before they drop the other 3 cords.

that is the only list of used cars that consumer reports recomends in the under $6000 price range as of march 2005. notice some years are not listed, because evan imports have bad years (1st modle change years for most all mfg's are poor) PLEASE stick to that list, you can find somthing you can live with (remember being brike and young, reliable and economical is much better than sexy or stylish.

If I were in your shoes:

Plan on taking you money and portioning it up. $600 to pre pay your insurance (full coverage) for 3-6 months depending on what car you buy, and what rate you pay (the worse your credit the higher the rate, along with your claim and violation history) get in the habbit of saving the next 6 month premium in advance and paying ahead.

anyhow, next: put the remaining $1400 down on the car of your dreams....er umm...the car within your means, and try to get as short of a note as you think you can aford. In that price range you should shoot for an 12-24 month loan, but do be woried if you have to go 30-36 if you spend at the top of that lists price range. work hard, make double payments as often as you can, and then save your money when you are clear so your next car you only have 1 payment to make, and don't get jacked for intrest.

My 2001 Nissan Altima GXE is in almost perfect condition. The mirrors need to be painted (due to the wind and sand) and there is a small dent on the hood. I can get pics if interested.
It had 1 owner(I got it from the original owner and I didnt use the car. only a few miles). It has 73k miles plus change.

For you Digi ,I'll let ot go for 6500. You gotta come down here to get it tho.

Daddy what ya think?

always look at the numbers on edmunds.com for the dealer/private party/retail sales avrages for any given car in your area, have a impartial mechanic look it over ( at the buyers cost), when your buying a car in the 50,000+ mile range ask about maintanance items, timing belts need replacement and can cost up to $1,000 for a dealer to do I think they are good untill 100k in most cars but check the specs on the one your looking at incase it was due at 75,000 and wasn't done.

that car should have a loan value of about $7,000 to a bank, meaning with your 1400 down just rough guessing loans for a BPMF (bad pay mother fucker) your in for 36 months at $275 per month for that car. Asuming it is in avrage, or better, condition $6,500 is what a dealership can sell it for retail, a fair private party transaction would be more like $5,800. I would work you closer to $5,000 myself knowing I could buy it at auction for about $4,500 , but have to drop ship it to my location, and cover the cost to fly out to the auction and back home it comes to the same $5,000.

I just bought this for $5300 and that includes transfer and tax too. I think the car runs great and has some good pep.
