As far as I know you simply pay 500 points for the internet channel and then you use it as much as you want and for as long as you want for just that one cost.

It's probably completely unnecessary of me to mention this, but do remember that you also need an internet connection in addition to buying the channel. Just in case you thought the Wii might provide that as well. ;)

The internet channel has no monthly fee and only requires 500 points to purchase at this point. The only way that you could've gotten it for free is if you had downloaded it sometime before mid-June 2007 and/or had the trial version.

it's a funny story how i got mine for free.. i bought my wii a day before it'll be 500 points so i bought my wii and the second i got it hooked up, i went to wii shop and downloaded it......whew i got really lucky....:yess:

ontopic; yes it's a one time fee of 500 points since it's only a browser and not the actual internet...lol
