Laptop Noises / Crashing

Hey everyone, I know we have some Computer Technicions here and I'm in need of advice...

I have an e-machines AMD 64 3000 Laptop with a mobility radeon 9600 in it. It has 512 DDR, and a 60 gid HD... Its over 2 years old now and I'm getting a repetitive loud hum / vibration that comes from the computer just before the screeen goes blank... and then it continues to hum/vibrate/make noise... at this point I shut it off. If I restart it, it works fine for awhile... but then does it again... I have the feeling this is either the HD or some sort of mechanical problem with it. If anyone could tell me anything further I'd really appreciate it. So I have stopped using it, I don't want to lose all the data on my HD. Incase any wonders why I'll not be participating in Lo3 scrims of on punx for a bit.

Most laptops have protection built into the bios to shut down the laptop when the temperature gets to a certain height. It sounds like your cpu fan is going bad and stopping occasionally and then the bios shuts the machine down. Usually in the bios menus there is a page that shows all the voltages and fan speeds. I would monitor it for a while and see if the cpu fan speed goes up and down. If it does then get it swapped out.

I regularly clean the fans and the inside of the case. My house is all ceramic tile floors throughout so dust bunnys collect big time in the case. It's a good idea anyway, especially your power supply fan, which sucks in everything and can fill up with crap and overheat. I also clean my winker, but that is so it doesn't smell like tuna.

Dingaling is better? You young kids!
Winker is better. It's a one-eyed beast and therefore: winker. Get with the program. I see once again our age difference is causing a rift. Dingaling? Isn't that what a phone does? Do you talk to yours?

Hey, thanx for the help guys... I haven't been cleaning the fans, and that makes a lot of sense... unfortunetly if I open up the case my 3 year warenty goes down the drain, so I just sent it back to them and let them figure it out and fix it all for me, needless to say though I wont be able to play CZ for awhile. Thanx again puppet, for the technical help.
