Other Holidays

I was thinking, all or most of the talk about the holidays have been Christmas. I was just a little curious to know if some of the people here just celebrate something other then Christmas. I don't really know many other December holidays, anyone care to share about what they celebrate instead of (or besides) Christmas?

Sorry if it seemed vague, I meant in December in general.

I know that much...

I'm more so just seeing if there are actually members who celebrate other holidays and what traditions and stuff go along with them.

You mean on the same day as Christmas? Or December in general? If December in general, there is a holiday on the fifth of December out here in the Netherlands, though it is mostly focused on little children. Teenagers (or young adults, if you prefer) tend to joke a lot about it and results can be... funny. It has about the same rules as Christmas though.

Besides that, no, I don't celebrate anything in specific besides Christmas regarding holidays. I'm not too sure on how to celebrate Christmas this year as well. Not only am I not in the mood to celebrate anything at all because of the stange weather (truth remains that it has been getting colder this week; but I was still going to school in my summer outfit) and yesterday something shocking happened in the family, which will result in a lousy Christmas for my family this year. No celebrations from my side this year.

It was kind of weird, while I was looking through my school newspaper it said something about boxing day. I remember you guys mentioning it and asking what it was about so I read further.

Boxing Day is celebrated on December 26th in Great Britain. There are many theories of how this holiday came about. One theory is that servants were required to work on Christmas day so they would take the day off after Christmas to go visit their families. As they would leave their boss would hand them gift boxes as a Christmas present, so the workers began calling it Boxing Day. Another theory is that the day after Christmas is when then church would distribute boxes full of clothes to the poor, who did not get presents the day before. Boxing Day is a holiday to help people realize what they have. In Canada Boxing Day is also comparable to Black Friday in the United States. There are numerous sales and clearances.

If anyone knows this is wrong, or has heard another (serious) theory behind boxing day please say something.

No, its the Friday after Thanksgiving. They have huge sales since I guess it counts as the start of the winter holiday season. Usually the malls and stuff are swamped and stores open at like 5 AM.
