Ok... here I go

1: A few days ago I went out and got a logitech headset so I could use a mic again, thinking the mic in my headset had broke. I unplugged my old headset and plugged the new one it.
TADA!
No more sound...

2: Now when I log into any CZ server whoever talks with their mic gets a yellow speaker above their head that stays there. Also, their name is on the right of my screen saying they talk until I hit my bind key for stopsound then it all goes away.

3: Tonight. I got a sound card from Indi
(AUREAL VORTEX 8830 WDM)

4: I installed it and have it as my default sound. Here is what happened.
First try, I get blirps of sounds, loud cuts of songs for just a second. So I restarted my machine and then the song played loud and strong until I got on AIM to tell Indi then it stopped working.

So now I have just blurps of sounds, and static in my headphones... When I use my mouse scroll I hear a strange static sound...

can someone help me?

oh yeah I am very frustrated, if you flame this thread I swear to god your post in the future will be fucked for years to come.

thank you and please help me Obi Won!

THE FORCE HAS COME TO HELP YOU LOST ONE !

Ok this has happened to me before. First, make sure you settings in windows for MIC is on and NOT on mute.

Second,Check to see that you have the correct BIND for talking in CZ settings AND Check you CZ settings for VOICE are set on MAXIMUM; the two bars.

Third, {this is what fixed the problem for me} THE RATES! Put your rates to default. which are ... "rate 9999" "cl_updaterate 30" "cl_cmdrate 30"

If that doesnt work try this--------- TYPE "VOICE_LOOPBACK 1" in console and create a server with bots and then try speaking into the mic and you should hear an echo of your voice back.

OK tell him what happens...

After your done with his ideas I would like you to try this. Go to START and then click on RUN and enter this and click OK:

hcp://help/tshoot/tssound.htm

Go through this wizard and tell me about the results. After you're done with that, go to START and click RUN and enter DXDIAG and click OK. Go to the sound tab and move the acceleration tab all the way to the left and do the tests and tell me the results.

You have a different sound card plugged in now. Did you disable your onboard motherboard sound card so that you could use that card?

Load the latest DirectX drivers:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/downloads/default.asp

depending on your motherboard though, you either

A) should disable on board sound in bios

B) jumper on board sound off

C) Leave everything alone and let the new drivers handle it

This stuff can be a real bitch. If you bought from someone I'd check with them before doing too much.

well I tried to get the directx drivers and I cant cause my pc failed to have a valid windows... anyway... I already have the directx9.0c... I did that DXDIAG thing and it gave me two sounds that I said yes I could hear, even though they were very distorted. Then it crashed and it wont do it again, I tried to run it a few times and it just locks up.

I don't know Dirty, you kind of already did. When you installed the new adapter from Deli, you likely installed one that uses a different driver than the old one. So that kind of leaves you with either a Windows problem or a hardware problem. Right now it sounds kind of like a hardware problem to me. I would think a good thing to do now is to reinstall the OS, service packs, and apps, but I'm sure you're thrilled with that idea (beats swapping the hardware though). I would like to be able to look at your logs and your configuration if you would let me. It won't give me anything private about you. Do this:

Download this file and execute it on your system.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...c-4fe5-a579-30b0bd915706/MPSRPT_SETUPPerf.EXE

It will create a cab file and it will show it to you in an explorer window. Open up an internet explorer window next to it and go to this link and drag the cab into it. Let me know it's there.

That's the spirit! Ok, but if you're going to do anything drastic, like start over from scratch, be sure to copy your steam folders so that if you have to reload steam then after you're done you can overlay it with your old stuff.

if I use my steam id and password I should have the same steam apps and steam id correct?

the only thing i play on this machine is CZ so thats the only thing I would have to download. I dont mind....

its wierd, i have sounds in the startup screen now, the music and clicking of the options... but in game it goes out...?

who knows.. I am erasing EVERYTHING and starting new. I figure I will need XP for when I get Indis machine anyway.

today hopefullly I can afford it... but I am getting my own copy of a lagit windows and a $20-$30 sound card. The windows I will need in the future and the sound card is to hold me over til I build a new machine over time. I am not a complete noob like I act I just get lost and dont want to figure it out. I however think that the problem is hardware with the onboard sound, I think it just burnt out. With the sound card Indi gave me I think its just cause its old and a piece of shit that was made for windows ME, there are really no drivers for XP to use it and its known as having major issues with games and 3d sound. So I will get a cheap soundblaster tonight and windows for the future. Fuck it, starting new.
