The List is in no particular order from best to worst.
1. Evasive Space.
This is yet another great looking game from High Voltage Software, but they’re working with Yuke’s on this project. The game will have online leaderboards, which is good but unfortunately there will be no online multiplayer in this High Voltage Software WiiWare game either. Seeing as how they are working with a publisher on this one, it might not be they’re decision to make but going forward High Voltage Software really needs to step up, and get some online multiplayer in their WiiWare games, because that’s basically the only thing that’s missing from them now, as everything else looks spot on.
2. Swords & Soldiers.
Swords & Soldiers is from the original creators of de Blob, which it looks like yet another fantastic idea from them, and it will be the first game from their new studio Ronimo Games. I love the art style of this game as it just looks so gorgeous, and it truly is another unique game on WiiWare. Unfortunately though, I think its getting a bit over looked by the gaming media thus far. The game was originally suppose to come out in December, and if it did then it wouldn’t of had much fanfare at all behind it, so luckily it got delayed into 2009. I said that it looks like a mixture between Castle Crashers, and Fat Princess but unlike those games its basically getting ignored by the gaming media just because its on WiiWare. I hope that changes really soon as the game gets closer to its release, because it looks fantastic.
3. Icarian: Kindred Spirits.
Is this the next spiritual successor to Nintendo’s own Kid Icarus? We’ll just have to wait to find out, but there’s no denying that if this game plays half as good as it looks then it’ll be a real winner. The game is a 2.5D platformer, and its being made by a four man team of indie developers, which is awesome that games like this, and World Of Goo can be made by only a few people. The story does have a Greek influence, but its not based on Kid Icarus. You use the Wiimote/Nunchuk to fly Nyx who’s the main character in the game and you, or a second player can use the IR to control the “gifts from the gods” power ups, because the game has a 2 Player co-op mode. The gifts from the gods are different types of shots, they can also let you move big objects and they can also control the wind ala LostWinds.
4. Last Flight.
Its a horror game for WiiWare, which will be a first on the service, but its cel-shaded art style makes it look like a masterpiece of gore. The stylized splatters of vampire blood will be a thing of beauty to any horror fan. In the game you play as the main character Larry Adelman, a 38 year old American who’s travelling to Europe to write a book about cuisine’s of the world as he’s a culinary critic. He’s a short, chubby, bald man who distinguishes himself by using sharp language and a dark sense of humor. On the same plane sitting next to Larry, is Anna. She’s a 30 year old beautiful Romanian girl, travelling to her country to bury her father. Which as you may of guessed they team up to survive the vampires attack.
5. Cave Story.
The game now features both standard definition and Wii exclusive progressive (480p) graphics, 4:3 and 16:9 resolution support, new character designs by creator/designer, Daisuke Amaya, 10 unique weapons to find and upgrade, over 20 boss battles through Mimiga Island, 15 levels to explore in the vast world, Classic Controller support, and three unique endings. So all in all I think people who were fans of the original should pick up this game just for the fact that it has lots of improvements, and also to finally help support the creator Daisuke Amaya aka Pixel by buying the game that you’ve liked, and played for so long now. If you haven’t played the PC version yet, (like me) then you might want to pick this WiiWare game up for some unique 2D sidescrolling action adventure ala Super Metroid, or Castlevania.
