Why Must Standby be on to get news and weather?

In the wii settings I keep the internet set to on so I can get updates and access mii channel etc when I'm USING the wii but I keep standby off since I want every bit of bandwidth for my other computers when I'm NOT using it so why MUST standby be set to ON to get news and weather? I really cant see the point of this or am I missing something?

It's just so it can get the latest information as soon as you turn your wii on.

I've been tracking the bandwidth on the wii for a while, and it hardly uses anything. If you're on a highspeed connection, the wii shouldn't make a difference in performance to your network.

i think its quite annoying too, all that power wasted just to get some headlines. they should just update once the wii is turned on.

Bucause those 2 channels release the most upto date information.
