On every exercise I've figured out bascially that if you're going for platinum medals, always try to make it so you can go through the exercise getting "Super" all the way through, meaning the little brain to your right (if you're looking at the television like a normal person does). If you the brain appears tiny with no words then basically it's just insulting and you might aswell restart.
