I have a 3 year old labtec headset with the left ear piece taped on with electrical tape and just recently, it no longer plays sound from the left side. So I only use it for its mic now.
BTW, I payed $15 for it.
On a side note, I also have my studio headphones (Which I use with my turntables and other equipment for music production). They don't have a mic, but they cost me around $300.
