Wulf... when did we ever say that model was not a concept for Maffrin? We've said that numerous times over. You listened not at all. The model was corrupted and did not work. Jigrael had to rebuild it from scratch, and reskin it from scratch as well, with Timfarman touching it up.

And wulf, the only liar here is you. Yeah, I asked you to modify the Crossbowman model from wc3sear.ch. So? Models posted at wc3sear.ch are open source, available, and meant to be used in maps, or modded further. Plenty of mods of models have been posted on wc3sear.ch. I'll bet you're next going to say, "Well, you're not giving the original modelers credit." The fact is that we've pretty much rebuilt all the wc3sear.ch models w/out using the wc3sear.ch models anymore. Maffrin is the only one, and yet we had to create the model for him, just basing it on the other model as a concept, b/c it was corrupted. And I KNOW you knew it was corrupted.

I also make few touchups for models I want to use - Death animations for auras missing it, resizes, mods etc. Everything is OK as long as you give credits for original model's\concept's creator.

I dont think there is a copyright, unless it was created from scratch by blizzard. Other then that, its Open. + For example. Lets say, Google.com © Which it is, but in this isntance it isnt but they have a copyright sign there anyways. I could simply steal there work with no credit. But since they do, I cannot make profit, I cannot use there work without permission and I cannot mod it then not give credit since I am using it as a base.

So using uncopyrighted work without giving credit isnt against the law, its just morally wrong.

Also, if people want to protect there models. Just use a Model Encrypter which were using for our Claniac3D Games, so people cant steal them without asking us and giving credit. Also im purchusing a copyright on Claniac3D so people cant steal work!

Wrong. Virtually everything you make like that is copyrighted. Official copyrighting is merely to aid in proving it in court. When you make a model, it is your intellectual property. If it is distributed for use, then you may do so, so long as you follow the license (if any exists), give credit and do not claim it as your own

You already own the copyright under law. Officially copyrighting it is a waste of time really, since a patent would really be needed, and that would be impossible to obtain in an effective manner.

And, having seen what had gone on with what I suspect this hacker to have done, I feel like running him/her through (though it's not entirely my position to want one to suffer, cause although I feel angry about it, I do feel tempted to direct my anger at someone cause I just want to blame someone). But anger can't last all day, and turns to sadness. How can a group of pups just pull a heist like this because it isn't what they all enjoy (which is that adultery sort of crap)? One cannot just simply hate a mod for something that can revolutionalise a good game like wc3 for no reason. Sometimes, the sabbotage of a mod's reputation is a random choice, pulled off by whelps that just want to have fun, then take off to pick on something/someone else's reputation, creating a nasty and none too pretty trail behind them.

Perhaps, I, myself, may be this hacker's next victim (though I don't wish to encourage it, it's sometimes too late to make them think overwise when they make their move). And, whatever everyone (after the hacker pulls his thing) accuses me of, I most certainly have absolutely no proof to prove innocence, even if it changes it by a mere bit (and this could probably be the same for the Terran I know).

Stop calling them a hacker...the password was insanely stupidly. Any password based on your real name with no digits in...not clever.

In response to the initial topic, recreating a model from scratch does not invoke copyright laws. Considering that we could not even open the model, we can't even be sure if the one listed as the creator actually created it. It could just be a screenshot from something else. All we had was a screenshot.

And, what I meant by "redoing the wc3sear.ch models" is that the models have pretty much been redone in GTW style, with GTW reqs and whatnot. They are no longer based off of the wc3sear.ch models. They have their own skins, and look quite different.
