the simple reason why SMGs (especially the UMP) are so desired is just like why the light vest is better than the heavy vest: mobility.

A good player realizes that the best defense against bullets is not to get hit, and being quick is the best way to achieve that. Sure SMGs don't do a ton of damage, and they aren't very accurate, but their speed more than makes up for it

You prove a good point. The only reason I don't like them is because when I'm getting shot at I'll probably have low health so I want something fast and strong. Something accurate so if I spray I'll still be in one piece.
