MP3 Downloads

Does anyone pay for mp3 online here? I was looking at www.mp3sugar.com and it seems attractive. I do not have the time nor the inclination to do the p2p thing anymore. I know that since the site is in Russia, it's probably less than legal here, but all I want to know is if the files are good and they don't rip you off. Any thoughts?

I want no-hassles full album high quality non-drm music quickly. Is that too much to ask? I'm tired of the kazaa days with bogus virus-infected files of marginal quality.

ATTN: LEGAL ACTION

just today i spoke with a college undergrad who just got subpoenaed and is in the process of being sued by the RIAA. this is no joke. i would suggest you all to stop dling songs. i think bittorrents ok, but it's not fun to be sued and have to get a lawyer, or settle for a few to a lot of g's

friendly reminder from your neighborhood sort

Well I normally just say fuck it and buy albums off itunes. Unless they only have that partial album crap. Then I will go to the store and get the CD.

I'm under the impression that if you turn file sharing off u cannot be sued. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure its the truth. But if everyone started doing this..there would be no more p2p file sharing.

I'm sure the industries are going to become stricter on file sharing. Especially with the internet getting faster. Some colleges already have the new "fast" internet. Suppose to take the same amount of time to download a whole dvd as it does to get a mp3 now.

Digital downloads have become the new trend and labels/distributers need to find a user friendly solution to combat people from not paying for the music they listen to. Most likely we will get to the point whereas almost anyone will be able make their music available for download and it will be a over saturated market (which it is kinda becoming). The only divider is labels have the money to put towards promotion.

The music industry and music in general really sucks these days and I think p2p file sharing is partially responsible for it. It put labels in a panic and now all they look for is fast food media that may or may not sell. There are no more developing artists. It's all about marketing a product and getting a brand name.

...I could go on about this topic for a while.....

I'm reminded of what an A&R told me just yesterday. He said he was getting jaded. He sits at work all day being inundated with demos which he has no time to listen to and projects that he can bring to the label president don't excite him at all. He equated it to the last presidental election saying it's like choosing the lesser of two evils. Which one to choose when you really don't like either but you have to make a choice.

back on topic.

yeah , i heard about some russian sites and they are pseudo-legit. You are not gonna get screwed..they just found a way to do that(website) and because of their laws noone can go after them.....anyway
its safe to use as far as I've heard...its like 25cents per song, right?

I saw on mp3sugar.com that individual songs are at least 192 bit quality and cost $0.10 each. Full albums are $0.99. In my opinion for that nominal fee, I would rather pay rather than mess with the p2p, torrent, whatever scene. And yeah, I own two houses, two vehicles, and support a wife a kid and another on the way. I do not need to get prosecuted for downloading music.

Oh yeah, isn't iTunes stuff loaded with DRM? Also, since the new CDs are loaded with copyright protection, it is more difficult to rip them to mp3. I do not use cds, unless for my vehicles, and in that case I just burn compilation audio cds from mp3.

i just want a HD in my car's head unit. any links for that?

my biggest question is: how hard is it to convert my 12volt battery to the correct voltage/wattage to run a pc in my trunk?

the idea being to have like winders barebone install, winamp, and thats IT ! i think it would work. my cousin's bf builds them for people but he lives in charleston, sc, and i dont know him that well. any of you have any suggestions???

i didnt mean to hop the thread, just came out that way. $0.10 a song, thats hot, and guaranteed quality... cant beat taht with a stick. imma look into that.

Analysis of Copy Protection

Check this link Sux, it shows you how to work around the copy protection on CDs. I have yet to find a CD that I was not able to rip from since finding this article.
I download from Limewire when I am lookin into new music, or just wanna get one song from an album or sample a potential cd buy. As long as you do not share any of your music folders, you are well on your way to staying off the RIAA hitlist.
