Well I used to own a rather large (40,000 + members) forum vB based for a GFX community and one thing we had that was a huge help was a PR or a "Family" group, we wore the forum tags on every forum we were at to spread our name. For instance I just made a group here at CAF to try it out, what we could do is have certain members become apart of staff or my group I made (if its ok) who will wear .caf+(name here) on their forum tags, as a way of advertising the forums.

I am a professional gfx designer to so I could make user bars etc to help spread the word.
