People don't like soccer because they don't understand it. I can watch a soccer game any day of the week. They say it's to boring, but yet they love baseball, a bunch of guys waiting for a ball to come at them when a guy hits hit with a stick...a really intriguing sport (not doggin baseball fans, just making a point). There's gotta be a reason though that soccer is the #1 sport in the world and always has been. Hell, the only thing more people watch than the World Cup is the Olympics.

I think they're ranked 8th because they made it to the quarter finals and damn near beat Germany. Call me crazy.

yes but they got to the quarter finals and almost beat germany last world cup the statts are for every world cup ever..which is why us is so high up bcuz htey get to play in each once cuz in the qualifiers they get the same easy teams each time but ukraine on the other hand had to go against germany in the playoffs in 2002 and other things during the other years

Actually Russian, the FIFA world rankings are based on the previous 8 years only, not on every World Cup ever played. And considering that Mexico is ranked 7th in the world and also Costa Rica and Trinidad and Tobago are also from CONCACAF, I would say the US doesn't play cupcake teams.

AMericans dont like soccer cause they are not familiar with it (its not televized enough). Why not? Not enough breaks/time outs/etc., therefore not enough commercials..........no cash...end of story

ya, slick. thing is, some of the networks are saying "fuck it" and putting it up anyway and then we as viewers arent doing our part. i think, furthermore, that we need a team to root for. americans like to win and DEFINATELY like to jump on bandwagons of winning teams (steelers fans in NC, cough). with soccer, its just too young here in america for us to have "our" team. like MLS came out when i was already in college.... most loyalties to sports are made when we are young. i say, give it some time, it will never be #1 here, but it will continue to grow, i mean, look at its competition right now-hockey, baseball? they better get their shit together quick, which hockey seems to have done, baseball, *shrug*. point being soccer could peak its head in the top 5 sports in USA sometime real soon.
